There is no admission fee and limited parking is available behind the STV off “I” St., or on the neighborhood streets. (Do observe the parking signs.)

The GACC–Library is resuming its regular offering of lectures and films with the visit of Barbara Fellgiebel on Friday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Ms. Fellgiebel, who was born in Germany and now lives in Sweden, will recount the dramatic story of her grandfather, General Erich Fellgiebel, who was part of Operation Valkyrie, the failed attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler on 20 July 1944. General Fellgiebel was executed and members of his family imprisoned. “As a family,” she says, “we learned to live with some people within German society thinking my grandfather was a traitor.”

General Erich Fellgiebel, participant in Operation Valkyrie, 1944

General Fellgiebel was the head of Hitler’s signal services. His role in the preparations for Operation Valkyrie was to cut off Hitler’s headquarters at Wolf’s Lair in East Prussia from all telecommunication connections. He only partly succeeded, as he could not shut down the alternate SS communication links in Berlin.
